EMAIL: xeo@sprynet.com NAME: Josh Derr TOPIC: School COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: While the teacher's away.. COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xeo RENDERER USED: Truespace 2.0 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro v4.0, Snappy RENDER TIME: approx. 8 hours HARDWARE USED: Pentuim 200 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Mrs. Green had only intended to be a moment. Principal Skinner had something important to talk to her about, and the test she had given the children should have kept occupied for a while... Ok. This image is not so much about learning, its about kids, and their natural tendency against learning. A monument to every time a kid has cut class, put a frog in teacher's desk, passed notes, eaten glue, or harassed a subsitute. Face it. You were probably one these kids (which one?). Looking back, it's amazing any of us ever graduated... DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I wanted this picture to be semi-realistic, yet have an overall kiddish and playfull feel to it. For that reason, I've used the birght colors, the simplistic, doll like kids, and the corner perspective, to give you a toy-like feeling, as if you were the child playing with them. The first objects to be created were the kids themselves. For the record, this my first attempt at a human figure from scratch. It's not really close to a human figure, but it works. I next lad out the building itself, then the desks and chairs. I originally designed my own chairs (quite nice ones I might add), but upon scanning my HD, I found a model for a chair that was a dead match for the ones I remember in school. Unfortunitly, the models probably aren't mine, and I have no idea were they came from. Other wise, the desk, backpacks, books, and everything are mine, and completely original. The teacher's desk was a prop for the Sept-Oct round with never really showed up in my final image. The blotter and folder are the same used in "the-file"(Is there a dark, sinister connection?). Also note the guest appearence by Frank, there on the teacher's desk in his bowl, from last months round. He might show up in the future, so keep an eye out! Nothing else of to much interest, excpet maybe the poster to the right. READ it urges. Picture taken of me with a camcorder and a Snappy. If you don't have one, here's a endorsement-buy one. Gets great pictures. Last, but not least, here's a list of the children's names... Arthur - The one at the chalkboard Josh - Throwing the paper airplane Joey - Boy tossing ball, to the left Matt - Catching the ball, to the right Tom - Heading out the window Jesse - Already out the window Eddie - Like snakes Samantha - Doesn't like snakes Jessica - Hanging upside-down on bars Claire - Sitting on the edge of the play area Maggie - Sitting on the edge of counter ...Gotta go, sounds like Mrs. Green and the principal are done with their conversation...
