TITLE: Eureka! NAME: Rick Wedgeworth COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: flw@molinfo.com TOPIC: Magic COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: eureka.jpg RENDERER USED: POVray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Corel PhotoPaint RENDER TIME: 31min HARDWARE USED: Pentium 180MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The scene is an alchemist's workshop and the sorcerer's apprentice, Mickey, has made a serendipitous concoction that has the power to turn him invisible. However, his elation from the success may be somewhat diminished when he realizes his shadow remains intact. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The idea for the alchemist's workshop is something I've thought about and occasionally experimented with from time to time over the last couple of years. However, the apprentice Mickey was a new twist for this setting and was inspired by the competition subject. Although the basic setting has had some history and some of the objects are modifications of ones I've made in the past, this scene was done from scratch specifically for this image. All images used in height fields and image maps were done by myself in Corel PhotoPaint with the exceptions of the celestial map named "Planisphere celeste", which was done by Phillipe La Hire in 1705; the cavern wall texture provided by Corel; and the astrological symbols on the table were scanned in so long ago I don't recall the source. In general most objects are CSG of the basic shapes. The cavern wall is a height field, the astrological map is a series of bicubic patches (done by hand), the flame is constructed from blobs, etc. All objects were created by myself directly with POV (no modeling tools).
