TITLE: Magical Reflection NAME: Matthias Opitz COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: Matop@swol.de WEBPAGE: sorry, no webpage TOPIC: Magic COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: magrflx.jpg ZIPFILE: magrflx.zip RENDERER USED: POVRAY 3.0 Win 95 TOOLS USED: Paintshop Pro, to create a JPG-file RENDER TIME: 17 hours 50 minutes HARDWARE USED: Cyrix 6x86 P166+ with 32 megs of RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: In April 1997 I heard about POVRay for the first time. For this reason you can say, that I'm quite a beginner in working with raytracing programs. Some weeks later I discovered the IRTC and had a look at the webpage. For the current topic, a particularly magic effect of daily life came into my mind. The effect you can cause placing two mirrors, with an object between them, opposite to each other - a little impression of eternity ! So I decided to create an image of this. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: All the objects in the image are fairly basic CSG objects, everything was done by hand. I spent quite a long time to create tolerable textures and illumination. I used halos for the cigarette smoke and embers. There seem to be some problems with the reflections in the ashtray, they don't seem to be worked out completely. Please email me, if you know a possible reason for that. The final image was rendered with the following parameters: 800 by 600 pixels Antialias_Threshold 0.3 default jitter Sampling_Method 1 adc_bailout 0.0039 max_trace_level 21
