The statue was 120 feet tall anf took 12 years to build and was finished in 290 B.C. Tge skeleton was made of iron (7.5 tons) and the colossus of bronze (12.5 tons). It was dedicated to the god Helios (Apollo). It was destroyed by a earthquake. Nobody knows how the statue really looks. The statue of liberty is base on the colossus. The picture is inspired on a painting I found on the net (by M. Larrinaga). DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: POSER 1 (free included with PCPLUS a computer magazine) was used to model the colossus body. It was exported as a DXF file en converted to a INC file by 3DWIN. MORAY for DOS was used to model the ships, sails, crown and the village. SPATCH was used to model the hair of the colossus.
