===== From djconnel@flash.net: I like the scene! However, the sky, which takes up a large fraction, could use a little extra work. The shoreline is a little simplistic, as well. The Colossus is nicely modeled, but I think it could use a more interesting texture. Also, the lighting doesn't seem to include the torch. ===== From castlewrks@aol.com: Ships are inappropriate for era of Colosus... three masted sailing vessels with square rigging are late medieval innovations. While the colosus was huge, it wasn't that big... more detail on the buildings and setting would improve this image. ===== From sonya_roberts@geocities.com: Very impressive! Just one little nit-picky thing, I think the ships you've used are from too recent a time period, as I recall (and I admit I might be wrong), the types of ships commonly in use at the time of the Colossus were square-sailed and/or lateen-rigged galleys, not the trimasters you have shown. other then that, looks VERY nice. Great modelling on the harbor and surrounding buildings. ===== From kaustin@tgn.net: I'm rather impressed that you decided to render the Colossus at Rhodes. While an achievement, I didn't think anyone would attempt something of that scale. The ships are quite nicely detailed (their level of sophistication at this point in time, I'm not certain of) and nicely done. The colossus itself feels a bit too flat, as though detail is missing. The flaming torch is probably a bit of overkill on the concept. ===== From chipr@niestu.com: Very impressive scale, good textures. Nice concept. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Colossal! I especially like the texture and lighting on the water. ===== From wozzeck@club-internet.fr: Good modelling. I like the boats, even if they have nothing in common with the ships used at this time. Same for the mosk. Another point is the way objects cast shadows on the water. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: Very striking image. Very good detail. The scale is vastly out of proportion however. ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: Erm, if your statue was 120 feet high that would make the ship sailing under it about 10 feet tall. I think a statue to scale would have looked more impressive, this one simply looks impossible. Nice modelling otherwise, though I think the ships' designs are not according to those ancient times, they look more like 19th century. And, well, if no-one knows what the actual statue looked like how does one know its weight and even base the Statue of Liberty on it? Besides, a statue the size you depicted (estimated 1000 feet) weighing only 20 tons would topple over at slight winds. ===== From c_et_d@club-internet.fr: i tried to import from poser to povray the way you did ( DXF ) But even = smoothing with 3Dwin, it looks always very straight. You found the good = use of it as a statue. ===== From lpurple@netcom.com: Interesting look, kind of like an old oil painting. ===== From r@cust169.webbernet.net>: The lighting is very good. I like the narrow color palette. It enhances the mood of the image. The detail on the little ships and the Palace? temple? is very good.I would hate to have to haul fuel for that torch! In proportion to the rest of the scene, this Colossus looks to be at least 1000 feet high, but that is artistic license.
