I imagine him sitting at his desk one late night, and his creation takes flight in his mind's eye. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The image was mainly created with Moray 3 and hand-tweaked in POV. The basic structure of the wing was modelled with Rhino, and completed with primitives. The glass-motive on the inkwell is a height-field, but doesn't come out too well. The quill was the biggest headache. First I constructed it out out 400 cylinders and intersected it with a prism to get the shape, but the moire effect was too intense. So I just took a prism and built a feather texture, which also cuts a lot in rendertime (thanks to the helpful guy in c.g.r.r. who pointed this out). The sheet is a bicubic patch, with an drawing from Leonardo as an Image_Map. I joined the MDL file, but without the wing, as it sums up to about 10 Megs. Cheers, and good luck to all.
