DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 

I used the demo version of Vue d'esprit to create a fractal 
landscape, and then I exported it to TGA format.  I brought it
up under photoshop, and used a couple of different filters on 
it to give the lines in the cliffs.  One of the filters was 
circular pixelate, and another was some Sine-wave distort plugin.  
This was the one that made the valley so deep.  The original heightfield 
had many smaller hills in it.

I then made the TGA image into a heightfield in POV-Ray, and 
added the water and sky, and gave some texture to the canyon walls.

The hardest part about creating the image was finding a good spot 
to place the camera within the scene.
