Stevens COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: spanky@wpi.edu WEBPAGE: http://davis.wpi.edu/~spanky/ TOPIC: Nature COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT JPGFILE: frozutop.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Form 0.5a RENDER TIME: 1 hour 6 minutes 28 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD K6 233 w/48 MB EDO RAM DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This image was built back to front, first building the background, moving through the midground, and finally arriving at the foreground. I started off this scene by creating a simple ground plane and gradient for the sky. I then placed the moon and began playing around with different sky configurations. I also had to play around with spotlights to get the lighting on the moon correct. Next, I built some height fields and placed them on the horizon line. They looked kinda crappy just sinking straight into a flat surface, so I added some fog in the distance. For the midground I created several differenced disks with a watery type texture, and layed out the marble architecture. The writing on the bannister is in Klingon(if anyone is curious what it means, you can email me). The chalice was rendered in Form 0.5a, which is a cool freeware program which creates complicated shapes out of primitives such as spheres and boxes. The rose and wildlife was modeled with form as well. There you have it, the rest was just a little magic that my imagination threw together.
