JPGFILE: cdjsnow.jpg ZIPFILE: cdjsnow.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray for Windows v3.10 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro 5.0 sPatch 1.0 CREATION TIME: about 5 hours design Final render time: 3 hours 10 minutes 55 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD K6 266MHz w/ 128MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Thiis image was inspired by a thread on the IRTC-L mailing list. Someone wanted to have a winter topic, but it was argued that there are many people in the world who were not familiar with winter/snow/ frost/cold. I grew up in California, which is right between the "What is snow? I've never heard of it before" tropical belt and the "I Hate this stuff! When will it be spring?" belt to the north. Snow was something you drove three or four hours to see and play in for a while, and when you got tired of it you could go back home to your nice 70 degree weather. So being on the edge of the snow belt, this is what kind of snowman you get in (most of) California. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: What is there to tell? It's just basic CSG. The scarf is a sPatch object, the pipe is CSG, the coal are two little spheres. The jar and water have the appropriate refractive indices, and caustics turned on. The metal placard is a texture mapped object, and the Kwan Systems logo is a height field. Everything needed to render the image is in the zip file. I am basically doing this image because I want the right to vote on the contest. So all you artists out there, Exercise Your Suffrage! Vote for the winner of this contest.
