JPGFILE: ringwshi.jpg ZIPFILE: ringwshi.zip RENDERER USED: Pov Ray TOOLS USED: MoRay RENDER TIME: 2.5 hours HARDWARE USED: Pentium 166 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: As you can see, this is a renerding of a ship comming into approach to a Ring World DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used the MoRay modeler to make this image. The zip file should contain the model and the pov source for this image. You will have to download the Comet ship from the Moray site for the ship. This image is a ship comming in on approach to a Ring World. This was of course inspired by "Lary Nivvenn's" "Ring World." The Ringworld being the size that it was, I wanted to make one close to scale so I could see what it may actually look like. Here is an extract from the book about the dimmensions: extract: A "ring-shaped" artifact orbiting star ED-1752 which serves as an artificial planet for its inhabitants. If the Ringworld were to be laid flat, it wouldbe a concave strip roughly 600 million miles long, another million miles wide, but only 1000 meters thick. The sides of this strip would rise 1000 miles above its meridian. All told, Ringworld has 600 trillion miles of surface area, 3 million times that of Earth. I made one unit a million miles. This told me that the diameter of the ring is 600 units long and one unit wide. Using diamter=pi*radius the radius is about 191.082 units big. This is what I used to calculate the size of the RING. The ship is the Comet ship object from the MoRay site. The Sun is the BigStar flare. The Ship Exaust is the Sunset1 Flare. I have actually two rings, because the bottom of the Ring World is supposed to be a very flat black. so I have one ring slightly larger for the undernieth. Please look at the model and give me any suggestions, or make your own improvements. Lon Bliss nhp@inlink.com www.inlink.com/~nhp
