TITLE: Valley of the Kings NAME: D. Grenier COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: dgrenier@alienvisions.com WEBPAGE: http://www.alienvisions.com TOPIC: Unbelievable COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: valleydg.jpg ZIPFILE: valleydg.zip RENDERER USED: Bryce 2 TOOLS USED: Bryce 2, trueSpace 2, sPatch RENDER TIME: not reported HARDWARE USED: Pentium 120 Mhz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: "Valley of the Kings" is a play on the place with the same name in Egypt where pharaohs were interred. The low viewpoint and ultra-wide view are meant to convey a sense of size. If you look carefully at the closest king object you will note some distortion due to the wide angle view. The hang glider objects were included both for scale and to provide some visual interest in an otherwise empty sky. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The king objects were created in trueSpace 2. The king on the left is part lathed, part lofted. The others are constructed of lathed objects, except for the finials on all. These are sphere primitives with crosses lofted from paths. They were imported as DXF objects and then scored, cracked and broken with negative "rock" objects and boolean operations. The small "hang glider" objects were created in sPatch, a small freeware spline modeler. Imported into Bryce as DXF objects. The other elements are simply Byce terrains. The terrain material and the sky are slightly modified Bryce presets. The zip file has a set of hang gliders in Bryce OBJ format, and a hang glider in DXF format.
