TITLE: Old Barney NAME: Mike Roseman COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: allasard@earthling.net WEBPAGE: http://www2.cybercities.com/~allasard/ TOPIC: Landmarks COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: barney.jpg RENDERER USED: Blender 1.59 (www.blender.nl) TOOLS USED: None RENDER TIME: 2min 41sec HARDWARE USED: Pentium II-233 under Linux IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Barnegat Lighthouse and Inlet, Long Beach Island, New Jersey I spent enough time there as a kid....and I love sunsets... DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I'm almost too embarrassed to explain it. :) The water is a *huge* mesh, up to the limit of polygons per object, so it is actually duplicated and scaled 4 times within the picture. (That's why I don't include the source. It's gigantic. :) I didn't feel a straight texture map would give me what I wanted. And I did this before Blender had an internal "wave" function. The wake is created by using a lattice to deform the water mesh. All the other objects are plain meshes, however the landscape was created for this view only. It's the first 3d work I've done exclusively for a single still. I also tried to create it as quickly as I could. The sky took me the most time to get right, since it took a while to test-render. The clouds consist of 4 planes of textures and lights. I used no externally created textures, all were procedural within blender. VIEWING RECOMENDATION: Weird banding seems to happen with less than 24-bit color.
