JPGFILE: 38ahoror.jpg ZIPFILE: 38ahoror.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.1g for Windows 95/98/NT TOOLS USED: Keith Rule's Wcvt2pov, Warren Mann's OBJ2POV, Poser4, Rino3D demo, Lview Pro for jpeg conversion and copyright, POV editor RENDER TIME: 2hr 34min HARDWARE USED: generic Pentium-III w/ 256 Mb RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The image shows a man just blown out an airplane from window seat 38A. As far as I know, this has never happened in real life, only in the James Bond move, Goldfinger. In light of recent events, in the U.S., I hope no one is offended. Originally I was not going to do an image. Then I was granted the dubious honor of becoming an IRTC Associate Admin. As I stated in my acceptance speech, "I now have the duties of a U.S. Vice President and the God like powers of a dead sparrow". So I hereby fulfill my obligation of creating an image in the "Winseat" tradition. I have chosen to depart from the traditional Winseat style, set forth by Bill Marrs, and try to make a competitive image. For more information about the Winseat tradition see URL http://www.apocalypse.org/~bill/raytrace/tradition/ DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The window frame is CSG with several superellipsoid's. A macro was used to create random four sided prisms for the flying glass. Yes, I know an airplane window won't shatter like this. I just needed to add something to show more action. The ribs in the plane's fuselage are a heightfield. The clouds are a plane with a granite pigment. The land under the clouds is an image map using a high altitude photo of farmland found in the net. The man was done with Poser4. The body was exported as a 3ds file and converted to POV with Wcvt2pov. The head was exported as a WaveFront OBJ file. I used a Rhino3D demo to explode mesh and extract just the eyebrows, inner mouth, lips and teeth. These objects were grouped separately and converted to POV with OBJ2POV and textures applied. To save space, fullman2.inc was not included file, but the parts for the head are. Email me if you want it. It is 800kb, zipped. Rhino3D is pretty good, but I can't justify the $800. So my search for an inexpensive mesh editor continues. Hope you like the image. It will be interesting to see how my entry in the "Winseat" tradition is received.
