TITLE: Frightened Eyes NAME: Margaret Hoskins COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: todda@cei.net WEBPAGE: http://mh_portfolio.tripod.com/ TOPIC: Horror COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: eyesmh.jpg RENDERER USED: Bryce 3D TOOLS USED: Bryce 3D, Corel Photopaint, sPatch, Poser 3 RENDER TIME: 15 minutes, 18 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD K6-2 400, 128 MB SD-RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I had started a completely different image (called Burn the Witch), but was told it wasn't particularly scary. Two weeks before the deadline and completely frustrated, I began a casual poll among friends about what scares them. It turned into a wonderful little psychological study, and my friends began to worry about me. I was looking for something that grabbed people by the collective unconscious without necessarily going for the blood and guts gross-out factor. What evolved from the discussions is sort of an homage to "A Clockwork Orange" meets "Hellraiser" with a dash of "Conspiracy Theory" tossed in just to keep it interesting. What's she being forced to watch? I don't know. Does it really matter? How long has she been like that? Long enough. Any time would be too long. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Began with a basic Poser figure (the ultramorph downloaded from Poser Forum) and changed her expression appropriately. Used Corel PhotoPaint to modify the basic Poser texture for the skin and changed the "eyelashes" to eyelids instead. Modelled the chains and hooks with sPatch. Started them by making a basic torus for a link and copying and positioning them one at a time. Created the "bloodshot" texture for the eyeballs with PhotoPaint. Modelled one eyelash in sPatch, and duplicated and positioned them individually in Bryce. The textures for the chains, hair and irises are highly modified Bryce materials. Two spotlights were added last. Adjusted the specularity and refraction of the skin, eyes, eyelashes, etc. before the final render.
