TITLE: The Sorrow from the wastes of war NAME: John Jones COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: john.jones@cableinet.co.uk WEBPAGE: None yet TOPIC: Ruins COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: jrjruins.jpg RENDERER USED: Bryce 4 TOOLS USED: PSP 4 (for Texture maps) RENDER TIME: 53 minutes HARDWARE USED: Celeron-300 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Quiet little town minding it's own business, not know about a war raging not too far away. Troops moved in and took the town, driving the inhabitents out and then left it for dead. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Disclaimer - If I ramble, Whoops :) Started with a few sketches of what I wanted to see, a few single buildings. Then attempted to build them in 3D. the buildings are in essence standard stretched cubes with bricky textures. To simulate the explosion holes used negative (landscape) booleans Went to a bit of trouble to detail out the floor boards and beams in the main building. To give the effect of snapped wood applied again the negative landscape to the end of a cube to give that broken look. Bricks in the rubble, cubes :) the rubble is rocky landscapes down sized to look like piled debris Added a later thought the barbed wire thing, I feel the scene needed it. I used far too many torus' for that. Once I had all the element I wanted it was just a case of positioning them to render Nice picture looking backdrop, 2 landscape at 90 degree angles very largly scaled to give the look of distant mountings I was suprised by how much the wireframes slowed my machine down and then again by the quick render time ??? If nothing more I hope you felt even slightly moved (I am attempting to stir an emotion within when you look at this) it does help if you can imagine ghostly screams and echoes of children crying and gun shots blazing. Comments welcome Be gentle :)
