===== From ekaiser@camden.tds.net: oddly nice. good composition ===== From whhale@nvl.army.mil: Took me a minute to get that the ruins were in the reflection. ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: Nice concept and great attention to detail... it just doen't look natural enough. Perhaps of the breastplate was lying on the ground or leaning against the pole... and the stones don't quite look realistic to me. ===== From Alain.Culos@bigfoot.com: Indirect introduction to the topic, this is good. ===== From jouni@mikrobitti.fi: A good idea, interesting combination of a simple background and detailed foreground. Well-modeled stones and armament. The texturing makes my hair stick up (as if it wouldn't do that all the time anyway) in one sense: the Phong wax and the reflection thingy. I'll be surprised if any remnants of the Roman empire can be used as mirrors in real life. Your image has much more than it shows at first glance. I would've paid more attention to get the work well done better visible. The Colosseum wall looks nice but doesn't get the deserved attention, as it can only be seen through a slightly distorting mirror. Anyway, well done! ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: The sky, grass and glowing pink-orange colors are very nice... I think the rolling hills and mountains should have had more detailed textures to fit in better with the rest of the scene. ===== From mar@physics.usyd.edu.au: My first thought was to comment on the lack of detail in the background, but when I realised that's a theatre reflected in the shield it fit perfectly as a painted stage backdrop. I can't tell if that was your intention - your text file is a bit ambiguous - but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and praise your brilliance! :-) It's a clever concept, and very well executed. My biggest complaints are the cleanliness of the shield (a subtle dirt or tarnish layer would help I think) and the slight "melted" look of the rocks, which may be partly jpeg compression. There appears to be some jpeg problems at the edges of the rocks and the background, which presumably aren't there in the rendered bitmap. ===== From sjlen@ndirect.co.uk: The background looks a little bit boring. I think it needs a lot more work on the textures, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Nice work.
