TITLE: Building View NAME: Jeffrey Cameron Loper COUNTRY: United States EMAIL: jcloper@yahoo.com WEBPAGE: N/A TOPIC: The City COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: bldgview.jpg ZIPFILE: bldgview.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.0 TOOLS USED: SPatch RENDER TIME: 10h 34m 46s HARDWARE USED: Pentium - 133MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: With this image I wanted to get a snapshot of the progression of the city to all steel and glass. The building under retrofit construction, with its rusted girders, I think, contrasts with the glassy buildings beside it. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The buildings were built up with unions of boxes and cylinders. The streets and sidewalks are just textured boxes. Models of the construction material (plywood, I-beams, and metal platforms) were declared and placed around the construction area to give a haphazard work area look. I used SPatch to create the lamps on the streetlights. The stoplights and crosswalk lights were created using the POV-Ray macros feature. I just started with POV-Ray in December, and I have found it to be a great program--very capable and well built. I especially like its ability to define pictures like computer programs (macros, for loops, etc.). This is my first entry into IRTC, with more to come I hope.
