Great idea, and well done too!  My biggest complaint is that the viewer is
looking straight up.  I expected to have the view at somewhat of an angle, like
a person who has his head tilted up.  The clouds look good but the sun is too
yellow for Noon.  It may not be possible to make the sun bright enough to look
real though.

The best feature on this image is the clouds they look very realistic. The birds
also look good too. (Your trick worked well, I may use it myself.) A better way
to do the buildings would be to create large boxes and layer textures. This way
you could add a little variety to the buldings. The sun may work better setting
up a sky sphere and making a very tight gradient between yellow and blue I have
tried this technique it looks pretty good.

While this image is simple in it's consruct, it is not bad.  Your scale and
placement are right on the mark.  If you really want to make an image like this
stand out i would suggest variations in the buildings and do something about
those clouds.

here some highlights and maybe even flare would had been more realistic -
making the image a bit more interesting.

The sky and birds look good, I think.  The buildings are 
fairly simplistic and could benefit from more detail and 
less sameness.  A little irregularity in their positioning 
might help too.  I think the scene might work better with 
an almost straight-up angle (maybe 80-85 degree 
rotation on the camera).  Still, very nice for a first image 
(I would never have the guts to show my first image to 
anyone!)
