At First I thought the gorilla was pasted in, but then I 
noticed some shadows on him from the leaves.  But what 
is that strange texture on his left shoulder. It looks like 
there is moss growing on him.  Because you didn't say 
Metacreations Painter "3D" I wonder if the painting was 
a post process.

Background textures very nice; not as good in the foreground (still good.) I
also am not particularly crazy about the gorilla position, but it's a good
gorilla nonetheless.

The image looks a bit messy. Perhaps antialiasing wouldn't have hurt the image
that much after all.
The gorilla looks flat and out-of-place, like an image collage.

The first look at this (from afar) drew some gasps. If the amount of detail and
the texturing would've survived closer looks without looking a bit too
rendered,
this would've made it to my top 5. Well done anyway!
