Surprizingly effective.  I could see some interesting variations on this. 
I think what makes this image 'work' for me is the strong 2d design together
with the sense of fractal decay in an indeterminant 3d space.

The 20 for technical is because I think you achieved 
exactly what you needed. 
You are definitely stretching the boundaries of POV
