TITLE: metalflower NAME: Sammy Fischer COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: sammy@cube.net TOPIC: contrast COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: sf_kontr.jpg RENDERER USED: C4D v6.1 TOOLS USED: Hairdepartment Plugin, C4D XL(for the plugin), Corel Photoshop 9 RENDER TIME: ~20mn at 1024x768 (cropped it afterward) HARDWARE USED: P3-500, 364 MB IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I tried to render the contrast between the standard idea of a flower being delicate and fragile and the rude aspect of machinely engineered (rusty) metal. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: the Petals are deformed spheres with three overlaid textures, the big tendrils are hypernurbs, the smaller hair were done using the Hairdepartment plugin (which sadly doesn't work with the current version of C4D). The butterfly consists of 2 spheres with alpha maps and an hypernurb for the body (which actually is not really visible). the Stem under the water is a loft nurb. the water is only a transparent shiny plane with a bump map. The picture was actually rendered on a notebook at 1024x768 and later cropped to 800x600, with a slight increase of the brightness (LCDs are crap when it comes to colour adjustment:(. The sig was added even later.
