TITLE: The party is over NAME: Julien Gourdon COUNTRY: France EMAIL: julio@cnedra.org WEBPAGE: http://www.cnedra.org TOPIC: Insects and Spiders COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: jg_party.jpg ZIPFILE: jg_party.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.1g TOOLS USED: Gimp for textures RENDER TIME: 7H30 HARDWARE USED: Celeron-500 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I live with 23 other students at the same floor, and we have only one living room for 24 persons. And we used to have cockroaches in the fridge (brrr, fortunately, they've left since we use traps). I imagined cockroaches coming after one of our parties in the living room, and finding all the pieces of the feast left on the table. One cockroach is drinking a bit of coke, an other beer (on the right) and some other run towards dust on the table. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I discovered Pov-Ray and Irtc at the same time 3 month ago, and I found it so usefull (and in a way, funny) that I decided to do the competition. Since I don't know yet all the features of Pov, objects are very simple in the scene. All the bottles are done with CSG. Some of the etiquettes on bottles were scanned from real bottles, some found on the web, and rearranged with gimp. Cockroaches too, are done with CSG, and I added 'granit' normals on them. The drop of coke is simply done with a blob. I used reflection on almost all objects, that's why the scene took so long time to render. There's also smoke over the ash-tray (a media scattering with density map) but we can't see it well. I wanted to put more smoke, but it really took too much time to render. Finally, I'm not so disappointed by my first scene, though it's a big chaos on the screen (it's even hard to see the insects in it :-). I'll do my best next time !
