The constant struggle for the survival of life against the forces of nature.
In a desolate volcanic wasteland a small plant forces its head into the air to
begin the re-colonization of the Earth after the latest eruption. In a thousand
years all may be green and lush again but at any time all may be reduced to
nought by another outpouring from the Earths interior.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 

This rounds' inspiration came from my trials and tribulations whilst trying to
get to grips with iso-surfaces. My thanks to all concerned at:

for pointing me in the right direction with the best tutorials I've been able to
find. I love the organic feel the 3D-noise gives to surfaces; it really helps
to move the images away from the clinically exact depictions so usual with
raytraced images.

I initially rendered this completely in red hues with the intention of depicting
the emergence of life on Mars but I prefer this splash of green against the
blandness of the grey backdrop.
