IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
The silent warrior hides in the grass and bushes waiting to
take that one fatal shot to end the life of his enemy. Thus living by his
creed of "One Shot, One Kill".
This image took me about 2 and a half weeks. I spent about three days
just modelling the rifle.
I prefer to use Ray Dream 3D for most of my graphics work as it's simple
drag and drop style allows me to model objects quicker without having to type
endless amounts of code or trying to figure out how a certain macro or include
file is supposed to work as in PovRay.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
I started the modelling process for
this image by first making the snipers face. This was done by using a
grayscaled bmp image of a face then using Zenstar's Supermesh plugin I extrude
a face image in 3d. The eyes are spheres that are textured with a bitmap image
to give the appearance of pupils and irises. The extrusion was textured with a
flesh shader I developed. I then used the free form modeller to manipulate a
flat plane to make it seem like it was draped over a human body. The resulting
blanket was shaded with a camoflage shader that was made by combining four
different color together in a spotted pattern. The resulting pattern looks
very close to standard forest green camoflage used by the military. The hands
and arms are also free form modelled. The hands were given the same texture as
the face and the arms were covered in camoflage.
The rifle I made myself in the modeller. The model is a close replica
of a Remington model 700 high power bolt action rifle. The barrel, receiver,
and bolt handle were textured with a dark blue brushed finish. the bolt
textured a smooth silver even though it is not visible in the finished picture.
The stock was totally free form modelled and textured with cherry wood grain
pattern. The scope is also free modelled and given the same blued brushed
finish. The lenses are spheres manipulated into lens shapes and given a
transparent tinted glass finish.
The swordgrass plants and vines were made with Plantstudio 2.0, then
imported as DXF models and shaded with a grass and jungle shader that I have.
The palm trees are models that I had from a previous project.
The main image was placed on a low terrain mesh and textured to look
like mottled dirt and grass. A seperate mountain terrain was placed in the far
background. I used a warm sunrise for the skyground. These were made with the
Four Elements plugin.
