JPGFILE: asia1.jpg ZIPFILE: asia1.zip RENDERER USED: WinPOVRay 3.5 beta 9 TOOLS USED: POV Editor, Calimax Modeller (for Temple model), ImageForge (for conversion to JPG) RENDER TIME: about 2 hours HARDWARE USED: P2 / 400MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A temple perched on a cliftop overlooks a mist shrouded valley. Inspired by an image I found on a museum site dealing with Asian artwork: http://www.artsmia.org/arts-of-asia/china/selected-works/corridor-large-1.cfm I've tried to create something that looks like it was painted on silk, and I've also tried to emulate the use of blank areas of the image to suggest large open spaces. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Technically speaking, there's nothing terribly sophisticated in this image - my cliff and distant mountains are height-fields (I've had too much trouble getting isosurfaces do do what I want...). And the for effect on the distant mountains is faked with a few vertical planes that fade between transparent and the background colour. All in all, this is a bit more rushed than I'd have liked, since I didn't come up with the idea until about halfway through the round. All things considered, I'm not too dissatissfied with the way its turned out. One day, I'll leave myself time to write a propper description.... :-( Thanks, Alun.
