A kid playing in his room, living in an imaginary reallity, fighting against an alien that has appeared from inside his cupboard only with his hands, even though he sure has a lasergun somewhere.... The idea came when I was doing experiments with radiosity and I made the chair. It lead me directly to a kid's room. I think imagination is the key to get in the Worlds that are inside the one we all live in. And childhood is when imagination is stronger, and the games the kids play are really Worlds within Worlds. So, let the children play (and play yourself ;-) I hope you like it. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THE IMAGE WAS CREATED: The first thing I did was the chair (a very simple chair, as you see, but I think it fits O.K. in this environment). I did it handcoded, but it lead me to the idea of a kid's room, so I changed to Moray and began to work in the room. The wall is made of a CSG union (a box for the wall itself and a transational sweep for the skirting-board), so I can scale it to make the wall as long as I need. The other are references. The floor is a plane with a tiled image map (made by myself in Photoshop). The desk was taken from a previous work ("insects and spiders" round), even though I had to add the legs, 'cause I only had the top. The baby walker is a remake using the bug from the same round as above, but changing it deeply in hamapatch. The desk lamp was made with hamapatch. Some friends in the newsgroups (where this scene's WIPs were shown), suggested to turn it on. This is the result of my experiments with filter, transmit, media and radiosity after a lot of tests. I don't know if it's correct or not, but I like it. Other CSG objects are the inbuilt cupboard (designed to be animated, you can open the doors and pull in and out the drawers), the world globe (also ready for animation, and a World within World), the chair (recreated from scratch in Moray), the clock, except for the arrows, (you can set the time you want), the picture board, the wall plug, the pencils, the books, the chess board, the ball and the carpet. This one was made as follows: The carpet itself is a box. The texture is an image of a Pokemon's World map (another World within World). The image was colour reduced to 16 colours. I translated the 16 resulting colours in 0..255 format to pov format (0..1) and made a material map with the image and its 16 pigments, so I could use the Fur Macro made by Rune Johansen and make it look more like a real carpet. All the rest was made using hamapatch, except for 2 things: The kid was made with Poser3 (though the hair and kid texture was totally reworked in Photoshop), and exported to pov using ObjUVPov. He has no gun, because I wanted to remark that imagination is all he needs. The car is a free 3Ds model (sorry, I don't know the author). I had to delete all the needed commas inside the hamapatch objects because I wanted to work with the current beta (that was a hard work, believe me), but finally the job was done. Then with the povray editor I began to adjust everything the way I wanted. Talking about textures, there are a lot of them (over 100 or so), and there are some imagemaps (26). The ones in the picture board were made by my daughters; Olalla and Maria (all of them over paper and scanned except for the one in the middle bottom that was made using the graphire tablet in photoshop). The clock's image was drawn by me, scanned, and worked on Photoshop with the Graphire tablet. So I did with the Bart Simpson's drawings in the picture book on the desk. There are two lights: one orange - yellow pointlight inside the lamp and one area light in the ceiling. All lights use fade power and fade distance. As you can see (I hope) this render uses radiosity, what explains the render time. The image was rendered at 1200x500, and then reduced to 900x585 to remove some moire effects. It was rendered using antialiasing 0.2 and Photoshop was used to balance the brightness and contrast, convert form .png to .jpg and to add the title and my signature. Everything is inside the .zip file, except for the kid and the car, and the image maps. I hope you like it. That's all folks. Txemi Jendrix inspiriens 2002. Txemi Jendrix inspiriens 2002.
