TITLE: Snowglobe NAME: John Brown COUNTRY: South Africa EMAIL: jbrown@ananzi.co.za WEBPAGE: N/A TOPIC: Winter COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: globe.jpg RENDERER USED: 3dsmax4 TOOLS USED: Finalrender (max plugin), XDof (max plugin), Paint Shop Pro RENDER TIME: 8 minutes 29 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD Duron 800MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Inside the glass globe snowflakes fall onto the small house. Warm light pours from its windows. The world outside the globe is oblivious to the small winter world contained inside. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This is not a very complex scene. The base of the globe is just a revolved line and the globe is a hemisphere. The house is made up of polygon objects and the texture for the walls and chimney were created in PSP. The snow texture is made up of noise bumpmaps. A particle cloud was used for the snow, the snow is small rectangles (as they usually are in the snowglobes in the shops). A few objects were placed in the background. The tree behind the house is a painted texture mapped onto a plane. Finalrender, a max rendering plugin, was used for GI rendering. XDof was used to create the depth of field effect, but unfortunately there are some artifacts (the black spot on the red lamp shade and several light spots), caused by the particle system, which I cannot fix. A glow was added to the windows with the Max Video Post feature.
