TITLE: Xanadu NAME: James Moore COUNTRY: US EMAIL: jtm11@bellsouth.net TOPIC: Dreaming COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: xanadu.jpg ZIPFILE: xanadu.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.5 beta TOOLS USED: Poser, Gimp, Povray RENDER TIME: about 10 hrs HARDWARE USED: Athlon XP 1.6 GHz 1GB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: "...Held within the pleasure dome Decreed by Kubla Kahn To taste my bitter triumph As a mad immortal man Nevermore shall I return Escape these caves of ice For I have dined on honeydew And drunk the milk of paradise." -Neil Peart (Rush) The idea was inspired by an old Rush song, "Xanadu" which was inspired by the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem, "Kubla Kahn" which was inspired by a dream. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The skeletons are poser models. The violin body and forks are prisms. Just about everything else is a CSG object. The glowing eyes didn't turn out exactly like I wanted, but I ran out of time for test renders trying to get them to play nice with the media. I started with a larger "cave" but reduced the size to make the shadows of the skeletons more prominent. I'm pretty happy with the texture of the walls in the background, though I wish I could have used the media to set more of an "twilight zone-ish" mood. Thanks in advance for the comments/criticism - this newbie needs all the advice he can get!
