TITLE: The Final Fairytale NAME: Andre' Kirschner COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: Novotek@web.de WEBPAGE: not available at the moment TOPIC: Loneliness COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: finalfai.jpg RENDERER USED: 3DSMAX 4, Mental Ray TOOLS USED: Poser, Photoshop (Brightness and Contrast) RENDER TIME: approx. 4 Hours HARDWARE USED: Duron 800Mhz, 1GB, Ti4200 GForce4 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: think of a time long ago... the world is convulsed from warlords and their machination. killing means enlarging native land. but there's a race that is able to fight those troublemaker that dimish their territory - the green dragons. aeons of ruling with a rod of iron - but beaten in the outcasts - they are trying to reconquer the lost areas that were primary their habitat. but the war has taken it's victims... only two of them have remained and in a showdown at an oubliette straight at the dark castle "gringer", the most powerful of the green ones has been ambushed... the only hope is our little green hero: tyrion. trying to find out if there's anybody out there still alive from the "green clan" or: if he has to survive in loneliness... DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: ... enough of the stuff that tolkien would describe :) in fact: - polygon count: 219759 - size (max-file): 6.834 MB making of: first i created the dragons wit poser (well, they were implemented in poser - but in a very "normal way") and set their pose to that what is seen in the image-file. next was to copy the textures - unfortunately this wasn't possible cause of the inferior abilities of posers export function. so i had to create procedure-maps to texture the "green ones". several changes have been made to the eyes of the little dragon. next there was the blood and the sword: to do so, i had to copy the adult-dragons mesh in the range of the neck, map it with a texture drawn in photoshop and refit it on the dragon (opacity- and bumpmap included). the environment is completely established in 3dsmax. every torch is applied to an omni that has been ranged (this is because i don't want the scene to be overloaded with red light). a target spot with volume light was used to create the situation round the dragons. a material was added to simulate the effect of water (opacity=30, bumpmapped with noise, high reflective and 2-sided). rendered with mental ray - this has taken a long time to adjust cause MR is VERY "adjust-friendly" :)) hope you enyoy my 2nd image in IRTC, greetz to all of you.
