IMAGE DESCRIPTION: 


This mindscape is another exploration of the artistic possibilities
of scripted ray-tracing, i.e. an attempt to do something which would
be quite tedious, difficult or even impossible with other means.
The name refers to a part of Beethoven's last piano sonata op. 111.

This image tries to capture some of the feelings the Arietta evokes
in my mind after the dark beginning of the sonata, the first bars
are like first rays of sun after a long night in a dark valley,
really the most spectacular landscape after a time with none.


DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 


The POV script for the foreground "terrain" was generated with a lua
script from a 128x128 pgm file generated with gforge. Both some regular
(y) mods and random (x,z) perturbations were added. The harpsichord is
an old friend.

The background eye photo with some ray-traced complements was transformed
with a transparent bozo height field.
