I was fascinated with fluid dynamics, until they tried to teach me the maths for it on my maths degree! The movement of the liquid looks very realistic. In fact the whole image looks really good.

The cup and wine are very good, but some additional objects on the table or in the background I feel would add to it.

From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com:
I'm glad you didn't add the focal blur, it is usually a distraction rather than an addition. More details might have worked, and better lighting of the wine glass, but overall the picture works well.

Very nice modeling and texture work. It's a shame you didn't get time to model some more, as the scene looks too bare. Also a better backdrop in the future would help, I know your trying to draw focus to the glass, but in this case the black background does not seem to do too much good.

I wrote (or tried to write) a fluid plugin for C4D a few years ago, and I know how frustrating this can get (I kept having stray particles fly THROUGH the surfaces instead of bouncing off, when the objects were too complex :\
I gave you a very high technical note for your successfull code:) Nice picture overall.

Interesting scene structure. A few things that my mind says
don't add up to a believable scene... The glass in caught
in the act of toppling over, but we don't see what caused it
to fall over. A blurred figure just moving out of camera
range would have done the trick there. The focal blur, or
whatever you used to imitate it, is too sharply deliniated
between the table surface and the background. Lastly, you
can see the glass and it's contents reflected in the surface
of the table, but nothing else.. Or at least nothing I can
discern. You'd think you'd see something of the ceiling or
the surrounding room. All that having been said, it's a
great image. :{)

What wine was that in the glass? Yes, more on the table, hors d'oeuvres maybe! Concept happens often!

From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de:

I'm not sure wine in a toppling glass would really spray into several directions like in this image. But still a nice rendering.

Spillt liquids seem to be a great favorite for this theme, but this particular image is well done (although physically somewhat unrealistic) and does convey very well the idea of a "frozen moment".

too dark

From dick@buckosoft.com:
I think the droplets look too small. Like something with a high vibration perhaps distrurbed them. The drops texture makes them look too much like Jello brand gelatin.
I love the table top.

From clem@dhol.org:
The idea is ok. The splash came out very well. The wine
and glass textures are good. The focal blur is a big
mistake. It steals context rather than emphasizing the
glass and makes the table seem like some sord of
random stone floor. The table texture, incidentally, is not
too well chosen in my opinion. A sharp but visually
relatively regular background (chairs, other tables) would
have made the story of the image clearer. The idea of
earth tones to set off the wine is good, but the table should
have been made of wood or set with a suitably colored
tablecloth or perhaps a more obvious stone texture
(unpolished sandstone?). As it is, the immediate visual
impression I got was a giant glass crashing on a
telescopic photo of Mars!

From p_chan@shaw.ca:
I agree it would have been nice to have more objects in
the scene. The wine seems somewhat viscous, but I
think its texture may be reponsible for this - the
highlights seem more suggestive of a solid than a liquid
to me.

From batronyx@alliancecable.net:
It's seems kind of empty but I love the rich warm tones you have here.

From slone@hiwaay.net:
Nice liquid. The glass rim looks rough (it would make a great Margarita
salted rim though).

Very beautiful glass, and table, and wine, and even the rest : the background

I think you needed to have someone's arm in this seen accidently bumping the glass. The way it is, it just looks like computer graphics. Nice textures and background though. I hope you start early for the next round.
Notable for textures, modelling
