===== From rgow@lanset.com: Nice building & statues! Sky could be better. ===== From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com: The statues are impressive, even though they're rather far away. I like the marble shine, though it also makes everything look rather new. ===== From raytracing@grayproductions.net: Nice work. The stone textures here are very well done and I'm impressed with the simple CSG statues. It's always a treat to see complex problems solved with simple tools. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: Good lighting, I like the fact the camera is in shadow that really adds something to this scene. I like the structure in the scene, and the sculptures are a nice touch, particularly since they're all hand-built CSG. The background trees and sky are effective, despite being fairly simple. The only thing I would really criticise is the textures. I'm not sure if it's your anti-aliasing settings, but those textures appear very noisy. Also the reflection settings don't quite look right, though that may be the lighting. For this kind of material a good reflection setting is to use layered textures, with the second layer being a transparent gloss with fresnel reflections and POV's conserve_energy attribute. I apologise in advance if you've already done this, but in the scene the reflection looks a little too even. ===== From xilo_m@hotpop.com: You're on the right track to make beautiful images, but unfortunately you don't seem to have an artistic sense... An artistic image would have movement, would tell a story, have a past and a future... and all this in a still image... When looking at your picture, I see a very nice render of a blue-print! Try working on the concept of you future IRTC submissions! ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: I rate your artistic merit high. I like the shadow affect and the inside looking out approach made for dramatic scene. However, the lighting in the front section needed some tweeking to bring out the details. Not sure why but the structures in the shadow just seem to take away from the rest of the image. ...but I know, I just said that is what made your image great but some how it needs fine tuning to bring out the details. Perhaps too much ambient light and not enough harder shadows. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: I love your scene, but I can see some technical difficulties. Textures often look totally different from up close than from a distance. In your case they look good from a distance and in direct light, but in the shadow the get fuzzy and unclear and "pinkish". It probably has something to do with your radiosity settings or/and the textures diffuse settings. If I was going to work on a scene like that I would probably make two, maybe three different versions of each texture, depending on the distance from the camera. Your textures are good from distance, but up close I think normals on the base and top would add more realism. Also radiosity settings with higher accuracy (see Pov manual) with "normal on" might help. It takes longer to render, but believe me, 3min 41sec seemes a incredibly short rendering time for a scene of this complexity, even with a powerful PC. Apart from this I think your scene is good, great modelling and composition is vell planned. I love the statues on the roof, they somehow look "right" even though they are made with relatively simple methods. Very good work. ===== From fergie_2002_@msn.com: oooooh marbly ===== From chris_hormann@gmx.de: Good modelling, esp. the statues. Lighting could be improved, the foreground looks somewhat flat ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: Nice work on the CSG statues. They look quite good at the distance at which they are placed. Some of the textures could be improved - the pinkish stone texture in the forground seems to repeat itself in an unrealistic fashion. ===== From intertek@one.net: I especially like the composition with the foreground pillars framing = the brighter exterior. Very well done Lan! ===== From slone@hiwaay.net: The statues look good, nice modeling with spheres and cylinders. ===== From r@cache-edi-hsi.cableinet.co.uk: ver ver nice image Notable for textures, composition, modelling ===== From r@ip68-11-81-210.no.no.cox.net: Classic design. Good work, but not very daring. Notable for modelling ===== From r@215-241.opf.slu.cz: Good idea, nice proportions, but too flat lighting. Generally - quite good work! Notable for composition ===== From file: Great, good use of light, though a little flat in some areas. Notable for composition, modelling, lighting ===== From file: well, a nice one - but a little bit too grainy...
