TITLE: Psycho NAME: Ralf Treuherz COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: ralf@treuherz.de WEBPAGE: http://www.treuherz.de TOPIC: Architecture COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: psycho.jpg RENDERER USED: Creative Studio 3D (similar to Maxon Cinema 4D GO) TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro for the Logo RENDER TIME: two minutes HARDWARE USED: PC with Athlon XP1700+, 256 MB IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This topic was hard, indeed. After discarding many ideas, many centering about the theme of a mini-town build with lego blocks, wood blocks or just a miniature world, I finally had the idea of sculpting a famous building. But it is not a normal "famous building". I chose the house from the "Psycho" film because it is a good example of architecture evoking feelings. Therefore I chose a moody atmosphere: dark clouds, full moon and low camera angle. And it seems that Mom is there ... ;-) DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: After first tries to use the very good "PhotoModeler" as a first rough design tool, I decided to build everything in Creative Studio 3D. I started with rough blocks as the three house parts and the roof, then subtracting with boolean functions smaller versions to get hollow blocks. Next I build a window and duplicated it and subtracted it from the blocks. It was never an option to build the wood structure by hand so I used a relief map for that. The most time was spent in designing every window different with different room maps. For the "hero" rooms (the room front left and the tower window) I used a curved surface and projected a room image onto it to get some perspective look. The balcony took much time too, it was all done with simple shapes and cloning them, rotating and mirroring to get all the details. This scene took a really long time to create, I hope you like it. Maybe I take a rest and will not submit an image next time because my social life needs some attention, too ;-)
