===== From jon@vulpecula.us: Cute. The clouds look good. The statues could use some work though. ===== From rgow@lanset.com: Interesting. Is that an alien tractor beam I see? Good job on the path & rocks. 3 different heads would be nice. ===== From thegreatbambeeno@yahoo.com: Cool idea, but the water looks bad, and the grass looks bad, and the statues look bad, and the sky looks bad, and the little laser thingy looks bad and your whole freakin image looks bad! ha ha! ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: Nice layout. I actually like the sea. Good work. ===== From somers@w-link.net: Sky looks wonderfull We wonder what they're staring at. the statues apear to cast no shadows, this looks wrong. ===== From pbrasolin@yahoo.it: Probably the subject isn't very original, but you've realized it in an original way. The sky is great and also the grass is good. It's a nice idea puting eyes on moais: they distract the viewer making the energy beam not istantaneous to notice. Aren't the rocks on the path rotated and scaled cubes? They look nice. The image is kinda toon-style, but with good photorealism. A good work. PB ===== From ralf@treuherz.de: Funny, indeed ! Grass is looking nice. ===== From info@michaelscholz.de: Has a nice look and feel to it :-) ===== From selsek@fnac.net: Les vraies statues n'ont pas de tels yeux! ===== From the_dark_allies@hotmail.com: A comical looking scene. One area for improvement would be the stones in the path. They look too much like simple cubes. ===== From marcelo@carvajalcassinelli.com: Have you ever seen a picture of a real moai? ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: The sea works quite well in the distance, but as you said, it does not look so good close to the camera. I think the ground turned out fairly well, but I find the rocks too squarish. ===== From emediez@emediez.com: Amazing sky, moais need a little tweaking. ===== From intertek@one.net: Hi Antoine, Easter Island is a very strange place! You picked a really wonderful = topic! But I'm confused by your interpretation of it. I never heard of = the artist you mentioned so I looked him up on the internet. I found = this image (which I guess you've seen): = http://membres.lycos.fr/shamael/images/paques.GIF. It seems a bit = comical. In both cases (your image and his) the big eyes looking up and = the odd looking hats make them seem... silly?! What's that light beam = all about? Are you saying they were put there by UFO's? I wished you = talked more about the humor of it - if that is what you were going for. = I think the humor makes the image less mysterious. I don't think you should try to explain how they got there (show the = beam). If you answer the mystery for the viewer then there's no mystery! If you had no intention of making a humorous image then please continue = reading... Most of the pictures I've seen on the internet show something = very different than your image. The statues are very solemn. They stand = in a row. Some are in extremely bad condition - missing heads and such. = Most don't have white eyes (some do). They look like giants. I don't = think anyone ever laughed seeing these things! They are nearly macabre - = like Canopic urns except the size of a school bus on end! I think you = are half way there. I really think this could be a great image and hope = you consider the following suggestions. After looking at the links at = the bottom: 1. get rid of the big white eyes, 2. put them in a row, 3. = put texture maps on them with lots of dents and large gray-tan blue-gray = streaks, 4. get some deep shadows try Noon vs. sun set, 5. make = different statues, 6. make the faces wider with deep holes for eyes, 7. = email me the next version of it! intertek@one.net Another 3D Image of the topic: = http://www.uhs-hints.com/articles/reviews/graphics/tos-full-5.jpg Photo from the island: http://www.eco-action.org/dt/gifs/stat2.jpeg Photo from the island: = http://www.photoatlas.com/photo/chile_osterinsel.jpg Photo from the island: = http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/lostempires/easter/images/movesslide01.jpg Photo from the island: = http://www.breger.net/Easter%20Island/images/the%20Bregers%20at%20Easter%= 20Island.jpg Canopic urns (fake ones): http://isis-collection.com/can4.jpg Hope this is helpful! Michael ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: The statues, terrain, road, and sea are good. So is the rain-cloud sky. = I don't like the strange glow around the statue on the left, and the = goofy expressions on the statues. I think a more serene rendition such = as moai_.jpg has a greater sense of mystery. ===== From file: Interesting! I like it! Notable for originality ===== From file: The moais are too cartoonish in contrast to the photorealistic clouds, and near-realistic grass and ocean. The strange shaft of sunlight - alien ray? - is a little distracting, and seems to have some unfortunate artifacts.
