===== From jon@vulpecula.us: Interesting idea. I like the shadow. Still...needs work with textures etc., it feels kind of flat. The texture of the boards could be improved especially. ===== From rgow@lanset.com: Good concept. Too dark on my monitor, and the textures are lacking definition. ===== From thegreatbambeeno@yahoo.com: nice idea, but not enough work. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: I love this concept. I know fear of height from my own experience from a bell tower actually, and it is still a mystery to me what happened that day, you donīt know that you have it until you find out and then it is too late..... The layout of this scene is good, but the textures are a serious problem. You should be aware of that the standard textures usually donīt fit your objects, they have to be seriously rescaled, etc. Itīs easier to make your own. The standard ambient value is usually too high so you lose all dark corners, shadows are grey which makes your image completely flat. I would like to see a revised version of this image with good textures and light coming in on every level. Iīm sure it will look fantastic. ===== From somers@w-link.net: Needs to have the wood texturesd aligned&scaled better, wall texture looks wrong. Good concept tho. ===== From pbrasolin@yahoo.it: Original idea, but not impressing image. PB ===== From info@michaelscholz.de: A pity the image lacks good illumination and textures. Keep at it. ===== From the_dark_allies@hotmail.com: I remembered this scene before I even read what your description said. So you can’t have done too bad, though I believe some better lighting effects could add more to the mood. ===== From zio_tom78@hotmail.com: Nice idea and good perspective. Textures need some work, expecially for the walls. The title is not clear: dark yellow does not show up very well on dark brown. It is not clear to me how Scottie's shadow is placed in the image. ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: Good work placing the stairs. They could, however, use some randomization for the textures (the bright streak on the landing makes the repetition obvious). While your technique for quickly casting a shadow works, the result is somewhat awkward as the shadow appears the same size regardless of how far the down the staircase it is being projected. From your description, I get the feeling the shadow is not really a shadow, but an image map on a box (or plane). Using a no_object keyword on that box/plane and letting the light source cast the shadow may provide better results. ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: Good technique to create the shadow. The lighting in this image is very = dull, leading to almost equal values on every surface in the scene. = Maybe some bright sunlight streaming in the window, and some sconces on = the walls would help bring more dynamic range to the scene. Using = radiosity would also help. ===== From file: Hitchcock eat your heart out. ===== From file: Just a thought - I think I know what gives some people an advantage over others in this competition. I've noticed that people like me, and you, and a few others, are using small images (probably 640x480). All of the winners seem to use very big images, and I think that's what is barring people like us. I'm writing this comment here because this image was relatively small, and no-doubt people will subconciously have this prejudice. Everyone try it next time - BIG IMAX IMAGES! Notable for originality ===== From file: Ambient light problems - the windows looks painted on.
