TITLE: Absinthe Minded NAME: James Hughes COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: marihugh7@cs.com TOPIC: Surrealism COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: am_jrlh.jpg ZIPFILE: am_jrlh.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.5 TOOLS USED: Moray, poser, poseray, UVmapper, blender, wings3d, Gimp, pencil RENDER TIME: 8 hours 21 minutes 13 seconds HARDWARE USED: AMD duron 950 mhtz with 512 megs ram IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The ever cliche green fairy. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: To make the alpha mapped images, I used poseray. The candle, candle holder and table are bezier patches modeled in moray. The fairy was made with poser, modified a bit with blender. The fairys clothes were modeled from scratch in blender, and texture mapped with uvmapper, and the gimp. the bottle, cork and glass are morays rotational sweeps. the window frame ,absinthe spoon and the connector thingies on the swingset were modeled from scratch in blender. the wings are height fields, and image maps. The label on the bottle is my own terrible attempt at drawing with a pencil, scanned and colorized with the gimp. added the star and text with it too. If you look closely you'll see green streaks running down the image, which are just a mostly transparent texture on a box in front of the camera. Adds a nice ammount of 'dirtieness' to the image i think. The celtic cross is a height field. (actually, two height fields stuck together) The sparkles/fairy dust is an alpha mapped image map on a thin box. The clouds are generated by a file i got from the povray news server, that was written by a genius named Anthony Bennett. My slightly modified version is included in the source zip. The candle flame is ripped out of a scene I also got from the news server, written by another genius named Jonathan Rafael Ghiglia. My slightly mutilated version is included inside the main .pov file in the source zip. The trees are Gilles Tran include file. For Gilles, Genius is an understatement. The excelent hair on the fairy was created by kozaburo@rakuto.com The textures on the marry-go-round and swingset were downloaded from 3dcafe.com I had to compress most of the images to .jpg format for inclusion in the source file, and take a couple of image maps out. but the difference in the final render is negligable. My thanks to the creators of povray!!!!!
