The plant looks very good.  I agree that the background 
is rather bland.  Also, being this close to the camera, the 
barrel could use more detail in its texture (for example, 
more variation in the colour of the rust).

I lik the plant, agree with you on the sky. I had trouble recognizing what it
was in-- a rusty metallic texture may help.
