TITLE: Life on the Moon NAME: Artur Tchoukanov COUNTRY: Canada EMAIL: artur83@hotmail.com TOPIC: Future COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: lifeonmo.jpg RENDERER USED: PovRay TOOLS USED: Moray for modelling, Photoshop for contrast and brightness control RENDER TIME: around 3 minutes HARDWARE USED: Intel 2,6GHz HyperThreaded P4. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: "In the future, by the year 2000, we will have colonies on the moon" said people in the fifties. Well I think they were too over hopefull about their estimation of time for such a project. So this is a more humble estimation with an open date. this is what seems to be one of the first specimens of vegetation in a Lunar landscape. It is adapted to the moon and probably genetically engineered and cross-polinated to withstand the temperature fluctuations. This picture gives the feeling of 'unfinished', 'loneliness', 'rough' and cold with a touch of warmth: at least to me. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Basic Photoshop heightflield map was created... those pixels came out as rocks, just as i wanted. My explorations had water(or ice) reflecting the earth, but i found it too busy. The grass is an imported model with my own material Credit is due to 3dCafe model, don't remember who made it, since i had it for a while. The Earth is a sphere with an imagemap(my first try at it) The image map is actually 2 maps combined from different free sources on the net... I don't recall them, 'cause it was just an idea at the time and i didnt bother to record my sources. The stars are just a vertical plane with an imagemap. I got off google search The fog is created in Moray. Then the pic is then processed through Photoshop for brightness and levels.
