===== From shevlin@uic.edu: This is a visually impressive image, but the commotion of the scene makes it hard to focus on a single element. Then again, given that this is a pitched battle, that's not necessarily a bad thing. The details in the scenery like the foliage and rocks and ruins are quite nice. Now on to the nitpicking... the blades of the swords of the two figures in the lower left foreground should be more or less perpendicular to each other; in a parry, the striking blade edge hits the flat of the parrying blade. The shadows in this scene are a little harsh; with that much sunlight indirect lighting would probably brighten up the shadows a bit. There's a paradox in this scene, though. Despite being in the middle of battle, there's little to suggest motion. Maybe it's just my aversion to scenes that have lots of Poser figures in them; those human figures have an uncanny not-quite-real feel to them. Overall, this is a well-made scene that is clearly one of the best this round. ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: The concept works but the there is a clash between realistic aspects of the image and those that look very 3Dish. For instance the ground is bare and with stones or pathes. Yet the greenery has great detail. The battle is interesting there is a great deal of action in the scene yet the impression is of a static scene - not sure why? Hard to articulate. ===== From rgow@lanset.com: Some good stuff here, although as you note, the Poser look is somewhat obvious. This scene I think would benefit a lot from Bryce's volumetric atmosphere, although it will then take considerably longer to render. ===== From simplepsy@aol.com: This image has so much detail... looks very busy. The only thing that I feel lets it down is the use of shadow... maybe a few more lights and diffuse would help. Its a shame that the shadow hides so much important detail. ===== From the_dark_allies@hotmail.com: I like it. Good job! ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: The foliage effect work very well, but does seem to lack some sense of individual leaves. The posing of the figures works quite well in the background, but I find the nearest two fights lack a sense of motion. Cuts are a nice touch. I'm not sure if blood stains on the floor would make too much of a difference, but the skeleton's swords could definitely use a few stains. ===== From file: I like the rocks and columns. The sand is too smooth.
