It has also long claws and talons of such a size that people make them into drinking-cups. The griffin was believed to live in the mountains of Scythia, originally in India and now in southern Russia. It is said that the griffin could easily find gold and other treasures and would guard them. For this reason their nests are very tempting to the hunters, and they are forced to keep vigilant guard over them. Griffins are usually heroic symbols, they are well known for their speed and ability to fly. In later times the griffin became a symbol of strength and vigilance.
