Swan maiden is found in various forms across Europe, the most famous being the story of Odette used for the ballet Swan Lake. In Britain there is a happier version where Aonghus fell in love with Caer Ibormeith. Russian artist Vrubel used the same mythology in his image "Swan-princess". I was so obsessed by it that I had to create my own swan maiden. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The swan maiden and castle are modeled with Hamapatch spline based modeler and then exported to pov-ray format. Entirely created on Pov-ray Mountains: To create mountains, first I created jpg file with Corel-Photopaint to make a mountain object in pov-ray. I used Corel's predefined texture. For mountain texture I recreated the same jpg with different colours. Water: It's a simple box primitive, to get the right water transparency effects. The water material was originally predefined in pov-ray textures.inc. I made new normal map and changed a bit some other parameters. Sky: Sky has seven layered texture to create cloudy sky and sunshine on the horisont. Last layer is mostly dark to create an impression of nightsky. Textures and materials used in the scene are all created in pov-ray. Some textures are layered texture maps witch are partly transparent. For example to make cloth, crown and wings.
