TITLE: The Screw NAME: Richard Massey COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: richardmassey87@hotmail.com WEBPAGE: http://www.3dlr.com/display.php?display=artistthumbs&artistid=393&page=1 TOPIC: Great Inventions COPYRIGHT: I submit to the standard raytracing competition copyright JPGFILE: screw.jpg RENDERER USED: Bryce 3D TOOLS USED: - RENDER TIME: - HARDWARE USED: Pentium 4 Windows XP IMAGE DESCRIPTION: In my opinion, the screw is an overlooked great invention. Without it, many of the things we take for granted would have probably not been invented yet, or be much larger in size. The screw is a perfect example of simplicity and elegance that makes it truly a great invention. Forever may it fasten materials together. The inset is a close up of the loose screw, which is on the rail to the left of the inset itself... By the way, the London Underground, the world's first, longest, and finest underground rail network, is another example of great (British) invention. Although I wouldn't call it an 'invention' as such, it is certainly a great piece of British engineering, worthy of appearing as the backdrop to the screw. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: * Tube station tiled wall made of individual cubes - (yes, the tiles are supposed to be larger than normal bathroom tiles!) * Rails, platform etc. created using positive/negative boolean objects (texture - Bryce Space Metal) * Underground map, 'exit' sign, no-smoking sign imported bitmap images * Far wall (texture - Bryce Real Steel) - inspired by 'Westminster' Station * Bin - cuboids and inverted terrain (texture - Black) * Fluorescent tube - cylinder - maximum ambience with yellow tint - multiple lights * Screw - a series of cylinder and a cone bolean objects * Final image comprised of 2 separate images - close up of screw added last
