TITLE: Tomorrow's Highway NAME: Ryan Twitchell COUNTRY: United States EMAIL: tryan2@rochester.rr.com TOPIC: Epic Proportions COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: rtscale.jpg RENDERER USED: Blender 2.33 TOOLS USED: Photoshop CS, Poser 4, 3DS Import script. RENDER TIME: 1 hour IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Tired of traffic congestion, redlights, smog, *pedestrians*? So are we! That's why your tax dollars are now going to use creating the biggest highway ever! So now you can get to where you need to go in a hurry and get out of the Earth's nasty, smoggy air quicker! Paid for by The Cement the Planet Foundation. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I knew an idea of this magnitude would be just impossible to do in a month (I started late), and I didn't want to spend long hours modeling lots of cars, so all the vehicles in the foreground and midground are borrowed (see below). For the most part the scene is elementary composition. Getting a decent feeling for the scale of this huge road was tricky. I wanted a hitchiker who was truly small, lost along the side of the road, cars zipping by. It took a lot of camera adjustments and playing with road size to get a decent feeling. Originally I started working in POV-Ray, but decided about a week in (3 weeks left) to switch to Blender. This made texturing and layout a lot easier. (But I still lov POV) CREDIT DUE: Bob Holcomb and Richard L_rk_ng for their 3Ds Import script for Blender. Thanks to the following people for their vehicle models (and making my life a lot easier). I am not sure if I used all the models listed.
