TITLE: A new planet - The green desert NAME: Raphael Teysseyre COUNTRY: France EMAIL: lefra@voila.fr WEBPAGE: http://asfixy.lsdp.net TOPIC: Desert COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: grdesert.jpg ZIPFILE: grdesert.zip RENDERER USED: PovRay for Windows 3.6.0 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro 5 (Jpeg conversion, gamma correction and rescaling) RENDER TIME: Approximately 2 hours HARDWARE USED: Athlon Xp 1600+ IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A desert is a place where nobody lives, another planet than Earth is thus a giant desert. Why green? I don't know... I think it's better green. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The first thing I made in this image is the ground: it's an height field with two dents patterns (one for the great shapes, the other for the details). I then added a great cylinder around the camera, filled with green scattering media which makes the atmospheric effect around the sun. There's a ground fog which makes the horizon lighter than the rest of the sky. The sand falling down the right hill is made with a second height_field, with the same function as the first height field, but with less precision, and filled with media. This second height field is then scaled and moved until giving a good effect. I made a 1024*768 render (avaible in the zip file), and then rescaled the image to 640*480 for the irtc. I gamma-corrected the images because it was too green: I made it a little redder.
