JPGFILE: solitude.jpg ZIPFILE: solitude.zip RENDERER USED: povray 3.6 TOOLS USED: PovTree Paint Shop Pro (heightfields) Terragen (background) RENDER TIME: 7h HARDWARE USED: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ RAM 768MB IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Desert is a big challenge for a man and this challenge is emptiness, solitude, lack of water, and sometimes violent storms. Manmade facilities help to make this challenge easier. In 18th century west rush asked to people to go through american desert and human ingenuity helped those run. First came wagon dirty roads, then water wells and finally railroad and telegraph. Often all of them crossed each other to form nammed spots on the maps and often those names remainded to all the voyagers the nightmares they have to fight of. This is the case of 'Solitude' a desolate map spot located in the emptiness of Utah desert between Salt Lake and Rocky Mountains. (Solitude is an actual place located on the Rio Grande RailRoad). DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Everything is very standard. All objects are CSG, windmill blades are bicubicpatches, ground is an heightfiled I manually draw in PSP. The bushes are meshes created by PovTree (the java version of TomTree) randomly placed on the ground. The mountains in background are 3 stacked plane (stacked in z direction) with a Terragen image mapped on. Every plane has a different diffuse to achieve good 3d. Every texture is procedural. The stormy sky is a layer of 3 cloudy planes.
