Since before recorded history man watched the birds flying overhead and tried to figure out how to fly himself. Successful at last, man's quest then became to improve on the complicated science of aerodynamics, fly higher, further and faster. Flight became a commercial enterprise, people flying around the world in large, expensive airliners, piloted by the highly trained elite. Only in the last 35 years has personal flight entered the lives of ordinary man. Hang gliders require training to fly, but the training and expense is within the means of adventurous individuals worldwide, and hangliding has brought man's perpetual dream to thousands, who can now take to the air for the sheer fun of it. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Pretty simple. I had wanted to do the landscape in POV, but I had very little time to work on this round, so never got it finished. Settled on using Terragen instead. Background rendered in Terragen and mapped to a box in POV. Hangliders are CSG and the pilots are a union of sphere_sweeps. Lighting is just a point_light positioned to match the light in the background, and another point_light closer to the camera to provide fill. Zip file contains the whole scene, but I reduced the background image in size and converted it to .jpg for size. Good luck to all!
