DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I knew the pool water was going to take up a lot of processer power. So I tried to keep the other objects simple and used Vue primitives and boolean differences wherever possible. The pillars and pool steps were made in Anim8or (FREE from www.anim8or.com), and exported as Wavefront obj's. For the pool water I started by creating fractal "mountains" and adapting them using a volcano function to get the surface right...but all I ended up with was volcanoes. In the end I created a grayscale map in Picture Publisher and used that as a contour for the water "terrain". The under water "point lights" didn't behave as I expected so I covered each with a dome filled with a material I made for light bulbs, to diffract the light in a slightly more natural way. I would have like to anti-alias the picture some more but ran out of time.
