TITLE: Stalemate NAME: Pete Angus COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: pac.man@earthlink.net TOPIC: Out Of Place COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT JPGFILE: stalemat.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 TOOLS USED: None RENDER TIME: 0d 00h 32m 47s HARDWARE USED: Dell Pentium II, 300 MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This image has several different forms of 'out of placeness'. Obviously, all of the pawns, beyond 8, are out of place. The king, sitting in a sea of pawns is also out of place. The king is out of place in both color and size relative to the all the others as well. The board might even be out of place, since it seems to not even have a place - it just hovers. I'm sure the picture will evoke social or racial interpretations too, one of minority vs majority, power vs numbers, etc., as well as how 'out of place' one would feel, being one of the pieces here, but I leave it to the viewer to interpret (as it should be in art). This is my first submission and my second attempt at rendering images. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: First I made a pawn and a king as CSG objects and placed them on an infinite checkered board where each square was 3 POV units wide. Then I declared PAWN as the CSG object that was the pawn. Then I placed PAWNs so they made a large row in the -x direction, then declared the row of pawns as ROW_OF_PAWNS. Now in ROW_OF_PAWNS I also included PAWNs in the +x direction also, but not on the z row where the king was. Next I reduced the plane to a thin finite box and placed ROW_OF_PAWNS all the way to the edge of the board. Now, there were no pawns on the z row with the king, so I added them in seperately. All patterns and textures were included in POV-Ray 3.5. Pic2Pic used to convert to jpeg.
