TITLE: Electric Light NAME: Bertram Henze COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: bertram.henze@t-online.de WEBPAGE: www.hologence.de TOPIC: Forces of Nature COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: elxlight.jpg ZIPFILE: elxlight.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 TOOLS USED: RENDER TIME: 4 days HARDWARE USED: Pentium Notebook, w2k IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Whoever thinks electric light is an invention of man, may think again - our night skies are lit up by electric light not even today fully understood by man, and - ironically - free of charge. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The road, the clouds and the explosion smoke are isosurfaces with noise3d functions. The lightning is a hollow cylinder difference with a partly transparent agate color map. The street lights are all CSG. The stars, the explosion glass shards and the wind-swept street lights were positioned with random function loops. The cloud underside lighting is from a single light source (instead of one for every lightning bolt), for render time reasons.
