TITLE: Art Gallery NAME: Chris Holtorf COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: lholtorf@nwlink.com WEBPAGE: none TOPIC: Minimalism COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: artglry1.jpg ZIPFILE: artglry1.zip RENDERER USED: POVRAY TOOLS USED: POVRAY, MS Paint, Rhino, K3sSurf RENDER TIME: 61 hrs HARDWARE USED: Mobile AMD Athlon 64 3200+, Pentium P4 2.4 ghz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This scene describes a Minimalist Art Gallery. The texture of the walls and floor were created to provide the least amount of distraction to the viewer of the two pieces of art in the open air part of the gallery (the statue and the pool). The stairs lead the visitor to the entry way to the upper part of the gallery, where three different paintings await. The trees in the background are there to inforce the Minimalistic nature of the gallery by providing a strong contrast to the Minimalist idea. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This image was created primarily in POVRAY. The doughnut-like statue was made using K3dSurf, the stair railings and pool ladder were made in Rhino and the images for the paintings were done using MS Paint. I had intended on replacing the Rhino parts with geometry created in POVRAY, but ran out of time. I used two machines to render this image. I had played around with different radiosity settings and differrent levels of anti-aliasing and used what I thought gave the best results versus speed. It still took a very long time to render for such a simple image. The zip file contains everything but the tree data from Tom Tree. This is a 9 mgb file when compressed so I didn't feel I should send it. A note about the clear, cloudless sky in the image. Clear and sunny days are an extremely rare event where I live and I feel, as I think others do too, that they should be captured and placed in a museum for all to look at when the gloomy days of winter arrive. Thats why there aren't any clouds in my image.
